JA Honors Volunteer and Teacher of the Year 8.08

JA recognized its 2007-2008 Volunteer and Teacher of the Year during the pre-game festivities of a Nashville Sounds game on August 9th.Winners of the 2008 awards are Amanda McGaugh, Teacher of the Year, and Ami Harvey, Volunteer of the Year.

McGaugh and Harvey were nominated out of 1,000 volunteers and teachers involved with JA throughout Middle Tennessee. These women were selected for the awards based on their involvement in JA, their commitment to the education of today’s youth and their passion to carry out the mission of the organization.

McGaugh, the Business Academy teacher at Ravenwood High School, has hosted JA programs, including JA Titan, Success Skills, Economics, and Global Business Ethics, in her high school classrooms for the past five years. Harvey, who represents Caterpillar Financial Services, has been contributing to JA in various ways. In 2007 alone, she volunteered in 10 classrooms. Since 2005, she has volunteered with almost 500 students and 16 different teachers in three grades. In addition, Harvey has participated in JA Job Shadow, served as captain of Bowl-A-Thon teams, and volunteered her assistance at the JA Golf Classic for the past two years.

JA appreciates all of the time and effort put forth by all of its volunteers and teachers. As Middle Tennessee prepares to go back to school, JA looks forward expectantly to another great year.
