Groundhog Job Shadow Day gives students an up-close look at what a "real job" is like and illustrates how the skills they learn in school are put to use in the workplace. This is accomplished by matching one employee with one or two middle grade or high school students. The student(s) "shadow" the employee on the morning of Groundhog Day (this year the event will kickoff February 2, 2007, and have an alternate date in February for our "main" job shadow event) for some "on the job" experience. (Alternative dates can be arranged.)
Companies do not need to find students. Junior Achievement will pair your organization with a school coordinator.
We ask that companies/employees provide transportation to the job site for students. This can be done with company-owned buses or vehicles. Junior Achievement provides additional liability insurance to cover claims in excess of the primary insurance.
Students will visit your company for 3-4 hours in the morning and have lunch with you before returning to the school.
Junior Achievment provides a guidebook to participating organizations to help facilitate and structure the day.
Students prepare for the day with some in-class activities and choose "career clusters".
The goal is allowing students to see employees doing their job. We request the hosts to create some tasks for the students so that they can really experience working at your organization.
